Value at Risk, a cover that leaves no ice
With Caustic Cover Critic Blog , I propose today to discover the steps by step creation of the latest book by Max CY Wong entitled Bubble Value at Risk: Extremestan & Procyclicality . Do not ask me what that title means, I am unable to translate!
Anyway, for this book, the cover design was entrusted to the artistic director Michael Wong Chinese who has not done things by half.
Instead of simply choosing images on image databases and then make his edits on photoshop, it decided to create its visual from photos of their choice. So far nothing extraordinary, except where it is known that the display in question is an iceberg! So you can better give you an account of the creation process, complete coverage here:
Compared to the rough start, it's quite successful!
All started with a model of the iceberg, made of plaster, then painted painter waterproof (of race)!
To give depth, carcasses of boats have also been made, here, with a bonus preview of the studio and made an example of view:
Once the various elements in place, he never missed the boat in the foreground sailing dangerously close to the iceberg. Here are some pictures almost complete composition:
The photos are of high quality but lack of vitality without retouching photoshop you can see the result.
Bubbles and gull were added to enhance the realism of the scene even if you picture a 3D image out of an animated film. To give you an idea of the size of this model, an iceberg measuring 42 cm high by 32 wide and weighs 8 kilos! Remnants of these boats are 50 x 80 cm!
A huge job for a successful and innovative coverage. To find more details and more photos, please visit the book by clicking here .
